Site History
The Beginning • This site grew out of Kathy’s (the original owner) slight obsession of redecorating her blog. When she couldn’t get her blog to look quite the way she wanted, she immersed herself in graphic design. Eventually, she decided to try her hand in website design. Because she had never made a website before, she wanted to start out with free webhosting. She came across Geocities, and it seemed like the best choice for her. She started off wanting to make a site for a bunch of actors and actresses that she liked. Unfortunately, because she didn’t choose to buy a domain name, she had a very limited amount of space and she realized, it would be to much for her to handle all by herself. So, by a process of elimination, she narrowed her choices down to one person: Keira Knightley.
Why Keira? • She decided to choose Keira because she saw her in Bend it Like Beckham and later in Pirates of the Caribbean and totally loved her! Kathy felt that Keira was such a talented actress at this young age (being just one year older than herself). Plus, when she searched her name, she only came up with one good site and wanted to learn more about her. So she hoped to use this site to spread the Keira love!
The Name • Kathy usually came up with names for things by listening to songs. She came up with “Walking in Daydreams” from a song I listened to that inclued the lyrics “are they walking in daydreams?” At this point in time, she was still building her multiple celebrity fansite and thought it fit really well with the theme of the site. When she narrowed her choices down to Keira, the name stuck. When the time rolled around to buy a domain name, she just decided to go with the flow and buy the walkingindaydreams.com domain name.
The Opening • This site officially opened on August 10, 2003 as a GeoCities subdomain, and the layout was absolutely horrible. It went through MANY different layouts before Kathy finally found one that she liked.. We were at first hosted at the now non-existent ClioOnline, but at the rate that the site was growing, Clio was unable to host us any longer. Kathy took a leap and applied for hosting at the largest and most well-known fansite hosting network: The FanSite Network. She was accepted, and started moving her site over immediately. The FanSite Network has allowed us to grow from a small site that took up only 100mb to the large ~900mb site we are today.
The Present • As you can see, Kathy eventually bought a domain for this site and took on one co-webmistress – Anca. When Kathy became too busy, Anca jumped in as full webmaster. This site is hosted at The FanSite Network. We have grew from a tiny fansite to one of the largest Keira fansites on the web – and only in the pace of one year! Kathy and Anca would like to thank all of the Keira fans that choose to visit this site everyday and all of the wonderful people who have contributed to this site – no matter how small that contribution may have been. You have all helped this site grow and mature.
